Why a limit alone is not enough
A basic limit shows how much you have spent. But spending 6,000 out of 10,000 ₽ on groceries looks different on the twentieth than on the fifth. With shared spending, each person may miss what the other has already paid.
In Мы, a limit shows both the amount spent and the spending pace. Both people can see them.
How limits work in Мы
- Set a category limitIn Categories, each main category has a monthly limit field. You only need limits for the categories where overspending is a concern.
- Both people record expensesThe limit is shared by the couple. It counts both people’s expenses for the current calendar month, including all subcategories.
- A warning appears at 80%The person adding the expense sees an on-screen message; their partner receives a push notification that the limit is nearly used. A second warning is sent when the limit is exceeded. These warnings are not repeated for every later expense.
- The count restarts on the first of the monthYour limit stays in place for the next month, so you do not need to enter it again.
The Spending pace screen
Each category with a limit and expenses this month has a card with a progress bar. The bar shows the share spent, and a marker shows how much of the month has passed. When the bar passes the marker, spending is ahead of the pace needed to stay within the limit.
- On track — spending is slower than the month’s progress, leaving some room.
- Slightly ahead — the share spent is a little greater than the share of days elapsed.
- Too fast — spending is at least 1.25 times the month’s progress. At this pace, the limit will run out early.
- Limit reached — 100% or more has been spent.
Cards are sorted with the categories most ahead of pace at the top.
Where to start when you do not know what limits to set
If you have earlier expenses, Categories includes “Suggest limits”. The assistant checks spending by category over the last three months and fills in the fields. You can then change or clear them: this is a starting point.
Without a history, start with two or three categories where spending tends to slip by unnoticed: cafés and delivery, taxis or online shopping. After a month, you will have a better idea of realistic amounts.
Travel limits
Trips have their own categories and limits, separate from the main budget. The same limit amount applies across trips. For a separate holiday wallet in another currency, see Travel budget.
Questions about limits
Does a limit cover 30 days or a calendar month?
A calendar month: category spending starts counting again on the first day. Your configured limit carries over automatically.
Can I set a subcategory limit?
No. Limits apply to main categories and include all their subcategories. For example, a Groceries limit includes both supermarket and market spending if they are its subcategories.
Will my partner know I exceeded a limit?
Yes, if notifications are enabled: they receive a push at 80% and when the limit is exceeded. Hidden expenses are an exception: they do not send that notification, to preserve the surprise.
What happens when I exceed a limit?
Nothing is blocked: you can keep recording expenses. A limit is a guide, rather than a restriction. The category’s Spending pace card shows “Limit reached”.
